City Hosts Flood Awareness Seminar

The north Texas region regularly experiences floods, raising many questions among property owners about flood risk, insurance coverage and government disaster assistance.

In order to answer these questions and more, the City of Garland Engineering Department in partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) will host a Flood Awareness Seminar on Thursday, March 12 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Central Library, 625 Austin Street in Downtown Garland.

A series of programs will be presented.  The morning session is tailored for insurance agents and the afternoon lecture is geared for mortgage lenders.  Both sessions are also open to the general public.  Topics to be covered include: legislation, disaster assistance versus flood insurance, flood zones and maps, and much more.  Time will be provided for audience members to ask questions of City and NFIP staff.

Although the seminar is free of charge, pre-registration is required.  To register or for more information, call 972-205-2170 or 972-205-3620.
