The English Estates Program area consists of several subdivisions located in the triangle of west of S. Garland Avenue, south of Miller Road, and east of Shiloh Road. The neighborhood hosts a variety of housing that is visually very distinct. The role of the Strategy in this neighborhood is to build on the diversity of the area in such a way that neighbors work together with the City to improve the neighborhood.
The first step was in the form of a Kick Off Meeting that was held on November 4, 2007 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. We discussed the issues of the neighborhood with the neighbors of the area. It was an opportunity for the neighbors chance to express their concerns and for staff to make sure they understand them.
Additional meetings were held with speakers from various departments to present what they offer neighborhoods and how they operate. These meetings were followed up by focus meetings on the important topics.
The program team then worked on creating a plan for the neighborhood.
What’s Happening Right Now?
The team presented a summary of the plan to the neighbors at the neighborhood meeting on September 18th, 2008. They are now preparing to present the entire plan to the City Council.
